Finding the Heart of the Nation: The Uluru Statement Five Years On

Almost five years have passed since 250 First Nations peoples gathered at a convention held in Arrernte country in Central Australia to create the Uluru Statement from the Heart. Thomas Mayor was entrusted to carry the sacred canvas of the statement and he embarked on an 18-month journey around the nation to garner support for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations voice, and a Makarrata Commission for truth-telling and agreement-making or treaties, recording his observations in his book Finding the Heart of a Nation.
He speaks to Teela Reid about this powerful call to action and its impact.
