Nancy Cushing is Associate Professor of History at the University of Newcastle.

Nancy Cushing is Associate Professor in History at the University of Newcastle on Awabakal, Worimi and Darkinjung country. An environmental historian with interests in coal cultures and relations between humans and other animals, she is co-author, with Kevin Markwell, of Snake-bitten, Eric Worrell and the Australian Reptile Park (UNSW Press 2010), co-editor of Radical Newcastle (New South 2015) and co-editor of Animals Count: How Population Size Matters in Animal-Human Relations (Routledge 2018).  She is on the executive of the Australian and NZ Environmental History Network and the Australian Historical Association.  In 2020, she stayed at home but in 2021, she has enjoyed a residency at Sydney Observatory.
