Uncle Warren Taggart is a respected Wonnarua Elder and knowledge holder. He has been recording Aboriginal sites for close to a decade and shares his knowledge with the Aboriginal community through education, publication and exhibition. He is a member of the Wanaruah Land Council and was inducted into the Wambo Coal Singleton Hall of Fame for community service. In 2022, was awarded the Singleton Citizen of the Year. He was also featured as an Elder in the ABC Naidoc Awards 2023. Warren has developed a cultural education program that he presents at the ‘Baiame Cave’, a heritage-listed site near Milbrodale for schools, the public and Aboriginal community.

In 2021, Uncle Warren and his team, Carol Carter and Allan Chawner, published Spirit of Place: Aboriginal Sites of the Hunter Region. The book, mainly large photographs, contained a preface by Professor John Maynard, an introduction by Uncle Warren and an essay by archeologist Dr Jillian Huntley. The response to the book has been very positive. It is given as a gift to schools, libraries and organisations. This work led to an exhibition of large photographs at Singleton Arts + Cultural Centre in 2023. The exhibition was widely supported and included a significant education program. With this work, all Aboriginal sites are treated as significant. Warren takes care not to reveal locations of specific sites and knowledge is shared when culturally appropriate.
