BottomCatharine Lumby is a Professor of Media at the University of Sydney. She grew up in Newcastle. She was a skinny, nerdy brunette who was scared of waves and sharks. That’s why she wrote 12 books, including a recent biography of Frank Moorhouse. She also writes books on feminism and goes on tv and talks about human rights and things her kids hate her talking about, including ‘sexing’. She loves Newcastle and everyone who lives there except the boys who called her ‘chicken legs’ in primary school. Her uncle Peter is a renowned jazz pianist. He lives in Newcastle.
Newcastle Writers Festival would like to acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend this respect to all First Nations people attending our festival.
