Judy Johnson has published six poetry collections and several chapbooks. Her prizes include the Victorian Premier’s Award, the Wesley Michel Wright Prize (twice), and her work has been shortlisted in the WA Premier’s Award. Her verse novel Jack was on the Sydney and Melbourne University syllabus. She is one of four editors of a landmark 25-year retrospective anthology of Australian verse, Contemporary Australian Poetry. Her most recent book, Dark Convicts, is a poetic exploration of her two First Fleet ancestors, who were African-American ex-slaves.
