For thousands of generations First People in our country have gathered in a continuing practice of coming together to share knowledge, celebrate country, and strengthen ongoing relationships. In the spirit of this continued gathering practice, The Wollotuka Institute, in partnership with Newcastle Writers Festival, invites you to an evening of community, corroboree and celebration.

Gawimarra: Gathering – A reading by poet Jeanine Leane
Award-winning Wiradjuri poet and academic Jeanine Leane will read from her most recent collection, Gawimarra: Gathering, which moves from deeply tender meditations on Country, culture and kinship, to experimental archival poems dissecting the violence and destruction of the settler-colony.

Scribbling Magic for Kids Bring the kids to draw along with award-winning illustrator Dub Leffler. Art supplies provided.

What Happens Next? Thomas Mayo in Conversation
As a leader of the ‘Yes’ campaign for the Voice to Parliament referendum, Thomas Mayo has a motivating message of hope to share in his new book, Always Was, Always Will Be. He speaks about the way forward and what is needed for First Nations people to receive justice. Hosted by John Maynard.
