BottomLamisa is a spoken word poet whose voice has been shaped by her own poet father and the rich Bangali tradition of কবিতা আবৃত্তি (kobitta abritti/poetry recitals). She writes from a place of quiet observation of the world and people- inequality, injustice, love and loss – and uses her pen to “rage against the world”.
She holds second place in the 2025 Australian Poetry Slam National Finals and will be competing in the 2025 Bankstown Poetry Slam’s Grand Slam. Her spoken-word poem, An Immigrant Sister’s Envy/Love, was selected for showcase at the Brown Women Poetry hosted by Australian South Asian Centre and West Words.
Newcastle Writers Festival would like to acknowledge the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the festival takes place, and recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging and extend this respect to all First Nations people attending our festival.
