Julie McIntyre

Julie McIntyre is an Associate Professor of Australian History at the University of Newcastle. She lives and works on unceded Awabakal land. Julie has published two award-winning books on the people, places, laws and politics entangled in the production, distribution and consumption of wine, including modern Indigenous histories. Her most recent book, Hunter Wine: A History (with John Germov, 2018), won a Wine Communicators of Australia Best Book Award, was shortlisted for a NSW Premiers History Award, and received a Special Mention for History from the Organisation Internationale de la vigne et du vin based in France. Her research fellowships include a State Library of New South Wales Merewether Fellowship and an Australian-American Fulbright Scholar Award. She teaches a range of courses. These include Power in the Asia Pacific: Conflict and Alliances and a course focused on humanities students’ relationships with artificial intelligence. She is writing a global history of Australia for Princeton University Press with an original focus on topics such as settler colonial land law.
