BottomJohn Fischetti is an Emeritus Professor of Leadership and School Transformation at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He previously served as Dean of Education and Pro Vice-Chancellor. He also currently convenes the Future Talent Council’s Center for Higher Education Transformation. With over 40 years of experience in educational leadership across Australia and the United States, John’s work focuses on reimagining learning systems for a rapidly evolving world.
His latest book, The Future of Schooling in a GenAI World, was published in November 2025 by Emerald Publishing. He is also collaborating with the University of Melbourne on an ARC Linkage Project exploring the scalability of a credential that could replace traditional examinations as a pathway to postsecondary education.
He earned his doctorate in education — specialising in professional development, school reform, and educational leadership for change — from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also completed Masters coursework in Secondary Education and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and American Government from the University of Virginia.
John has over 90 publications across his career and has managed over 12 million dollars (USD) of grants in teacher education, leadership development, policy implementation, professional learning, university change, and implementing educational technology.
