David Banney

David Banney is well known to Hunter Valley audiences as a conductor, composer, educator and broadcaster. His weekly discussion of life and music on ABC1233 with Paul Bevan, ‘Banney’s Baton Baton Banter’, reached more than 300 episodes. David is Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral, Artistic Director of the Christ Church Camerata and was the founding Director of the Newcastle Music Festival. He has spoken at numerous conferences and festivals and has given lectures throughout Australia for Arts National (formerly ADFAS). As a composer David is represented at the Australian Music Centre. As a writer he was Highly Commended in the Australian Crime writers Association’s 2024 Louis Award. In ‘Hearing Art, Seeing Music’, David brings his wide experience as conductor, composer, educator and broadcaster to bear on the parallel histories of western music and art, from the Renaissance to the present day.
