Courtney Collins is an award-winning author, screenwriter, and producer. Her debut novel, The Burial, was published in 10 countries and shortlisted for the Stella Prize, NSW Premier’s Literary Awards, and the Nita B Kibble Literary Award. It is being adapted as a feature film set for production in 2026. Her second novel, Bird, was published in 2024.
She holds a Master of Creative Writing from the University of Melbourne and a PhD from Charles Darwin University. She has taught creative writing in Australia and overseas, including at Batchelor Institute of Indigenous Education. She is a Sidney Myer Fellow and an Asialink Fellow.
In 2017, she started Ngukurr Story Projects, producing short films and picture books with First Nations artists and storytellers in southeast Arnhem Land. The films toured nationally and internationally, with several broadcast on SBS and NITV. She hosts and co-produces the podcast ‘Are You Still Working?! – How to Take Your Creative Ideas Seriously.’ Life Could Be Dream, a feature film she wrote, directed by Jasmin Tarasin, will be released in cinemas in May 2026.
