Nancy Cushing teaches and researches in Australian history from the University of Newcastle’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences. She publishes in the area of environmental history with a particular interest in human-animal relations and the history of Newcastle. Her most recent books are the co-edited collection Radical Newcastle, with James Bennett and Erik Eklund, and Smoky City, with Howard Bridgman, both 2015. In 2016, she helped to launch the Global Newcastle Research Network with other historians from her School, the University’s Cultural Collections and the Newcastle Public Library. She is a member of the History Council of NSW’s executive council.
