Michael Aiken

Michael Aiken lives and works in Sydney. His first book, A Vicious Example, was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s Kenneth Slessor Prize and the Dame Mary Gilmore Prize, and was described by The Australian as “a dense, wild place where nature and human achievements, or their detritus, are in a Ballardian struggle for supremacy.” In 2016 he was named the Australian Book Review’s inaugural Laureate’s fellow, for which he wrote the book-length poem ‘Satan Repentant’ under the mentorship of David Malouf. His working life has included a long stint in the security industry and various other unspeakable tasks.
