Melinda Smith won the 2014 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for her fourth poetry collection, Drag down to unlock or place an emergency call. Female experience and humour feature strongly in her work. She also likes to play with text and technology, using acrostics, cut-ups, anagrams, hidden quotations, Twitter syntax, GoogleSculptures, and cento-generator software. Her mother’s family hails from the Hunter Valley and she has many holiday memories of Newcastle. She lives in Canberra.
