Maggie Walsh

Maggie Walsh is a Bwgcolman woman from the Aboriginal community of Palm Island. She grew up in the Dormitory, which was a home for children who were taken from their families. She writes about her childhood, about love and loss, incarceration, addiction, about a table. Maggie has read her poetry at the Sydney Writers’ Festival and with Australian actor Jack Thompson at his 70th birthday bash at The Basement, Sydney. Maggie found her calling as a poet when she was an artist in residence at “Wirian” the Bellevue Hill home of Sydney artist Martin Sharp, who became her close friend and mentor. Her first book of poetry, Sunset, was published by Vagabond Press in 2016.
