Biography

Lyndall Ryan is conjoint research professor in the Centre for the History of Violence at the University of Newcastle.  The author of two major histories of the Aboriginal people of Tasmania, in the past decade she has pioneered the study of frontier massacre in colonial Australia. In July 2017 she launched the first stage of an online digital map of frontier massacres in Eastern Australia 1788-1872. The purpose is three fold:  to establish a reliable methodology for investigating colonial frontier massacre; to show how and where frontier massacre took place; and to incorporate frontier massacre into a reassessment of Australia’s past.
