Elicia Taylor is in her third year of PhD candidature at the University of Newcastle. Her research examines the impact of World War I on Australian single women and widows. By using marital status as a frame of reference for analysis, Elicia is aiming to provide more nuanced insights into the range of opportunities and limitations influencing women’s lives as a result of the war. Her project encompasses the experiences of Australian women involved in a broad range of activities both overseas and on the homefront. Elicia has received a variety of achievement awards throughout her undergraduate and postgraduate studies including the National Council of Women’s 2017 Australian History Award in recognition of her project’s important contribution to war and gender history.
