Biography

Catharine Coleborne is Professor and Head of the School of Humanities and Social Science/Dean of Arts at the University of Newcastle. As a historian, Catharine has contributed to Australian and New Zealand understandings of colonialism and its legacies over time. She is the co-editor of the landmark collection, Law, History and Colonialism: The Reach of Empire (2001, 2009), and a past President of the Australia and New Zealand Law and History Society. For 16 years, Catharine taught the histories of Australian frontier conflict during a time when scholars were forging new understandings of the violence of colonialism and its impact on Aboriginal peoples.
