Ryan O'Neill was born in Scotland, and lived and taught for several years in Lithuania, China and Rwanda before settling in Australia. His short stories have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies including The Best Australian Stories, The Sleepers Almanac, Meanjin, New Australian Stories and Westerly. His short story collections have twice been shortlisted for the Steele Rudd award, and his latest collection The Weight of a Human Heart was published in Australia and the UK in 2012, and is forthcoming in the USA and Israel in 2013. Ryan lived in Newcastle for a number of years before moving to a rural property near Gloucester, NSW. He is a fiction co-editor for Etchings literary journal, and he works as a tutor and lecturer at the University of Newcastle.
